We love seeing what clients do with our videos. Horizon has launched its Back to School Blues Video Matchup game featuring your work! They’ve got a bracket system going and they’ll be featuring 2 more videos everyday for you to vote on. So keep checking back to see if your video has been displayed.

One note: this will not be the way that the client will make their decision about the Zooppa contest rankings. This is for fun!

Zooppa Facebook App Launches!
We now have a Facebook application with our first Facebook contest running! FoodSaver is our first client to use our Facebook app to run a video contest. The contest is called “If They Only Had a FoodSaver”.

Your Mission:
Make a video, up to 30 seconds long, demonstrating one or more alternative food preservation methods that didn’t quite work out. The failed methods can be historically accurate, or they can be fanciful failed food preservation methods of your own devising.

Your videos can showcase failed preservation techniques from today, or famous food preservation fails from the past. If you so choose, you can demonstrate how things might have been different if your subjects had access to a FoodSaver®.

End Date: 11/7/11

Verizon Field Tester Challenge Sharing Contest Ends Tomorrow!

You may have already noticed the Facebook tab on Zooppa.com/contests which led you to the FoodSaver contest which in turn led you to the FoodSaver Facebook page. It was in Alpha mode and now we’re ready to have everyone take a look at our new app.

Our new app lets you participate in Zooppa contests straight through Facebook.

Horizon is looking for videos to use in a national Back-To-School engagement program on the Horizon Facebook page. If you submit your video early (before August 30), Horizon will consider using it in their Back-To-School Blues video match-up and promote your work to their national Facebook audience!

YOUR MISSION:
Make a video 60 seconds or less about the trial and tribulations about Back to School Seasons for moms and how they can still depend on milk for their kids’ nutrition.

Cold Showers Gets Hot!

We have about 20 entries for the contest so far in this hilarious contest. Some folks have also posted their entries on youtube, which is totally fine. We would love letting your videos go viral as much as possible. If you entered the contest share your Zooppa video on Facebook and other venues as well!

We also wanted to let you guys know that we have received some great entries that we couldn’t show because of copyright issues. We have to keep track of that sort of thing because we’re awarding money in these contests. Plus, in some competitions, there could be a chance that your video receive some additional television and web exposure. This makes the images and music you use subject to copyright laws.

Road Trip Jones: Jones Soda combines social media and the great American road trip

This is a cool concept:

While you are on your road trip this summer, there’s a Jones Soda RV out there somewhere, navigating highways and byways, just itching to get some cold Jones Soda in your hand, or put your photo on the bottle itself!



Far from a traditional approach to advertising, Jones is asking for people to share their road trip experiences via various social networks.

It’s called Roadtrip Jones. The basic idea is that Jones Soda is in search of this summer’s best road trip photos. The top 10 winning photos will be printed on a national run on bottles of Jones Soda (approx. 30,000 bottles each).

Griffin Technology is collaborating on this and giving away 10 iTrips a week, plus a $500 shopping spree.

Participation is easy.

All anyone needs to do is tag their photos (and videos) on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube using the hashtag #roadtripjones. They will search these sites using the hashtag and select winners from tagged photos. That’s it.

It sounds really cool, and a long way off from traditional advertising where people were told what to buy, and if told enough times, expected to buy it. It’s so much nicer directly to engage your customers.

That’s why I wanted to feature it here.

At Zooppa we totally do that: look to the consumer to tell us what they think.

Clay Shirky on TED

While not precisely about user-generated advertising, this video of NYU professor Clay Shirky’s recent talk at TED@state is essential viewing for anyone interested (as we assume you all are) in how the social media boom is changing the world.

Titled “How cellphones, Twitter, Facebook can make history,” Shirky’s talk addresses, “… how Facebook, Twitter and TXTs help citizens in repressive regimes to report on real news, bypassing censors (however briefly). The end of top-down control of news is changing the nature of politics.”

Sounds pretty awesome, right?

TED Blog also recently posted this transcript of an interview with Shirky in which he talks specifically about the way Twitter is facilitating the recent protests in Iran. You can check out Shirky’s site here.

If you haven’t heard of it, TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an annual conference that “… brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).”

A huge number of these talks can now be viewed on TED’s site. If we weren’t so committed to bringing the user-generated advertising revolution to fruition, we’d probably just stay home all day watching TED videos and thinking about the future.
