I do agree that some of the entries (not only in the video category) clearly show that this network is not resctricted to professionals. Should it be? If not, then I think people should do whatever they want. It’s their responsability. |

I’ve been lucky enough to win prizes in a couple of contests but I honestly think that it’s impossible to know what the client is really looking for. Sometimes I’ve seen them pick something that I would never have thought would place, much less win and I’m happy for the Zoopper who created it…more power to them. I think most Zooppers are happy just for the opportunity to create and submit works for the competitions and not all have the equipment and knowledge to create “video” entries. Just do your best work and let others do theirs. Maybe you will inspire them to do better next time. |

I agree with Lance, Also with every genre/medium i.e. slideshows, there comes the opportunity to break the conventions in which they live. My go-to example is Quentin Tarantino’s fragmentation of time in Pulp Fiction. It could have been confusing to some however he manages to make a very coherent story in a fractured time sequence. If he had done everything in sequence, it would have made a movie with much less impact. I think someone may have done a fan edit of Pulp Fiction in true continuity a while ago. I should check it out… If I were to try to reinvent the slide show, perhaps I’d make interesting transitions in-between slides (perhaps a page like flip for each slide with a plane flying at the edge of the page) or have an animation overlay on the presentation to simulate a laser pointer…and have a voice over that too… With whatever medium you choose, there is always an opportunity to bring something in that otherwise would never be there and no one’s thought of. Yeah my examples are lame but just a thought. Manny |
