@MannyZooppa @Zooppa,

I plan to make a submission to this contest but first I’m curious. How do we receive feedback from the various corporations that we’ve submitted to? It can be a grueling task for filmmakers depending on what type of content they are providing. It would help me to understand what your sponsors are really searching for. One case that I just viewed is the Windows 7 competition. In reading that brief, a person can come up with a few different explanations. After the first read, I’m thinking that it has to be a direct spoof without mentioning the other product. Second read kinda felt more like what the latest post explained which is not necessarily a spoof but more of a “tell the truth without exaggerating” type piece. If feedback isn’t available, it should be on the list for future and current comps. In the Samsung piece there were really good ones that really stood out to me and obviously to other viewers but they didn’t win. Maybe a listing of which ones were semi-finalists would also help.

And I have no idea what that score means on each video. Please clarify.

For the Windows 7 brief your first indication is correct. My post was really about giving you more examples of the claims that other smart phones make plus I wanted to let everyone know that you needed to spoof another smartphone.

The past Samsung contest was before my time. I couldn’t tell ya why Samsung went with Samsung Santa, however, I would say it’s because they used an iconic character in a fresh and funny way. Using well known public domain characters like Santa in a fresh way might have made the difference.

In my blog post announcing the Buick winners, I quoted the client in the explanation on why the first place winner received first place. Check out the post.

For the current Samsung contest, we’re currently editing a video brief, however, the main mission says this:
Make a video, up to 60 seconds long, about how 24/7 digitally active people make their lives fuller through the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Something I would do (off the top of my head) is show a professor grading, scheduling and booking plane tickets for a vacation in a funny way. That’s a 24/7 digitally active person using the device in a digitally active way.

Open to discussion!

Manny

It was a spammer. I have deleted it. I wouldn’t go to the website.

Hi,

I got a question regarding the background music.

Does it have to be an original piece of music?
Can I use a popular song or make a remix of a popular tune?

I’m just not sure about the copyright issues for the music.

Oh, and one more question.

Is it okay to show a website on the tab? Such as Youtube or Skype?

That’s all for today and thanks for your help in advance.

For everyone else, Let’s do it guys!!!!!

Hi Sangtv -

Unfortunately, it is not ok to use a popular piece of music, or a remix of a popular tune.

In the brief, you can see we have this language regarding this issue:

"All music, images, video footage and other content must be either originally produced by the filmmaker submitting the video, or proper permissions must be authorized by the copyright owner. Proper permissions must include the right for the filmmaker to use the content commercially. Likewise, it is the responsibility of the filmmaker to ensure that all permissions are in place for use of actors’ likenesses. "

That doesn’t mean you have to make your own music. You can look at Zooppa’s creative resources page to find some suggestions on where to look for music you can use.

However, you must do the homework to make sure that you have proper permissions to use all music for commercial purposes. Just because you find a piece of music on the web doesn’t mean it’s free of copyrights – you have to check into individual licenses in order to ensure that the piece you’d like to use is available for commercial use.

- About the websites, like Skype or YouTube – you can use them, but it would be a good idea to obscure or fuzz out any logos or identifying marks. Otherwise, it looks like Youtube or Skype is supporting Samsung, which isn’t necessarily the case.

Thanks!

Josh

It looks like you have to complete the My Profile tab (top right with white text on grange). My video uploaded after completing the profile. And go figure…that is what the rules and terms state.

Chhers!

Hi !
I was just wondering if it would be ok to use samsungs own app logos in the videos. eg. the app icons for music player/video player etc, that can be found on samsung phones and the tab?

Thanks for any help :)
