Got a great new contest on the site. I think this will be fun – I’m sure y’all are starting to get ideas already: Pepto-Bismol.
Bring the pink!
This is the place where people can ask questions, or just talk about this contest.

Awesome!! First question for you for the contest. :D In the brief it says you could potentially make more than four 15 second commercials. In fact it seems if you make more, your odds of winning go up. So, if I make six, do I make a 1:30 sec video? Or do I make it in two parts, one 60 seconds, and the other 30 seconds? Because of the 60 second constraint? Thanks!! |

“Quote”:Awesome!! Hi Cauthier- Yeah, this is a confusing piece to the puzzle. Every submission should be at least four 15-second videos, so each submission should be 60 seconds (give or take whatever buffer time between 15-spots you need). If you have six 15-second spots, you’d need to create a video that was 90 seconds long (a :30 second, 2-part submission would not be eligible under these rules). The tricky part is if you have 8 or more 15-second spots. In this case, you could make 2 full 60 second submissions (2 different 4-part submissions). Or you could create one giant 120 second submission that would contain all eight 15-second spots. This would be up to you. Pepto would like to see all the 15-second spots in your submissions to be somehow thematically linked (though the type of humor used, the look & feel of the spots…something). So if all eight of your spots feel like they are somehow thematically linked, then you should have them all in the same 120 second submission. If it’s more natural thematically to split them, then you’d be better off with two 60-second submissions. It’s a strategy call on your part. This is a tought one! But there is a lot of money in this one, and a lot of prestige for creating for a Proctor & Gamble product like Pepto-Bismol! Please let me know if this doesn’t help. Josh |

Yeah, that clears it up, thanks! :D |

Page 2 of the brief says to include the Pepto Drip animation included in the brief but all I have found are still graphics. Should there be an animation? |

“Quote”:Page 2 of the brief says to include the Pepto Drip animation included in the brief but all I have found are still graphics. Should there be an animation? Hi ApertureStudios- Yes, you’re definitely right. We’re still working on getting that drip down animation. It should look & feel pretty much like the Mexican Pepto ads that are listed in the printed version of the brief, except that it would have the “Eat, Drink & Be Covered” copy. This animation comes down over your video, and becomes the end slate. The animation takes about 2 seconds to resolve, so you should create your videos such that there is enough time for the animation to resolve. —> We’ve asked the client to provide this by the end of this week (by June 25). I’ll come in here and make an announcement when I post it into the materials files. Josh |

The brief states that all 15-seconds ads “should include food or drink as part of the occasion being shown”. Does this mean actually showing the food(s) or can we mention them in character dialog or some other way? On this note, is it a mandatory to actually show the occasion (e.g. party in full swing) or can we, again, mention the holiday within the context of a funny/clever concept? Hope this makes sense. |

Are you looking for finished spots or can we submit storyboards or animatics? |

Hi Lorenschiller- you don’t necessarily have to show characters consuming food or drink, or even show the food or drink- certainly characters could just reference it, or food & drink could even be implied if it’s done correctly. However, please remember that we cannot show alcohol. Pepto is very adamant about this. And for the occasion- it’s sort of the same thing: you can reference it or mention it. The Mexican ads they provided us are good examples of this. They don’t show the occasions, rather preparation for them. Does that answer your questions? Thanks! Josh |

“Quote”:Are you looking for finished spots or can we submit storyboards or animatics? Hi Inhalor- great username! We are really looking for finished spots. Sometimes when people have ideas, they will post in the forum looking for collaborators. Or, if you were a fan of one particular Zoopper’s work, you could try to message him/her through the comments on one of his/her ads. Then you could figure out a way to collaborate and get some of your ideas created! But yes, for sure, we’re looking for finished spots. Thanks! Josh |

Regarding actors – If we use SAG actors, is it safe to assume P&G will pay them the SAG minimum if (when) they eventually air the spots on TV? That’s how it usually works on these online contests, but I can’t find the answer here on Zoopa. Thanks, |

ATTENTION PEPTO CREATIVES!!!!! I’ve been back and forth with the client regarding the “drip-down animation” that is required in each 15-second ad, and it looks like we are NOT going to get it. - So we’ve included a vector file end slate with the materials files that you can use instead. Here’s the deal though: In order for the possibility to air one of the winning submissions on television, you’ll want to create your videos such that the drip down animation can be added after the competition ends. I’m confirming the exact time that the drip animation takes to resolve, but it looks like 2.2 seconds (from the Mexican examples). You’ll want to allow the end slate to persist on top of the video for the same amount of time. THE BRIEF HAS BEEN ALTERED TO ACCOMMODATE THESE CHANGES. |

Hi everybody - I got some news back from the client today. About SAG: Proctor & Gamble are in agreement that any actors in any ads that they choose to air on television will be paid SAG wages by P&G. If the actor is not currently a member of SAG, then P&G will pay for their first year of membership. I’d say that’s some pretty cool news. And about the animation: Please consider that if P&G are going to use an ad on television, they will want to insert the (yet to be created) drip animation. This drip animation (like the ones that can be seen in their Mexican ads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4G6LMXwQXE) takes around 2 seconds to resolve. Its an animation that makes it look like Pepto Bismol is covering the screen, from top to bottom. So even though it takes 2 seconds to resolve, action could be seen in the background during those 2 seconds. So try to take that into account in your shoots. That’s it! Happy creating! Josh |

Hello everyone!! I am very excited to hear that Proctor and Gamble is wiling to pay any SAG actors that star in any video if it wins and is aired. This ups the anty for this competition and definitely adds to the excitement surrounding this particular competition. I believe this may give us more activity for the competition as well. Good luck in your creative thinking and filming!! Best, Ashley Hagerman |

Hi Everyone - I had a question regarding the Pepto contest - This contest requires that you upload one single file with four 15-second ads in it. Do you think this 60-second ad would need to be bigger than our current 50MB filesize limit? Should we increase the filesize limit for this contest like we did for King Kong? Thanks! Josh |

Hi Josh, I have a follow up on the SAG question: I spoke with SAG today, and they said that the actor(s) must not only be paid SAG wages by P&G, but that the actor must be placed fully “under a SAG contract”, which means that they will be paid SAG wages in addition to other certain standards, such as payments to the SAG Pension fund, etc.. I assume that P&G is in fact set up to meet all these requirements, right? -Mike |

Here’s a question… I noticed that the submissions so far aren’t incorporating 4 ads in one, and some are even 30 seconds, not 15. Obviously getting your ad out fast, helps a lot for community awards, BUT how can they win money if they aren’t following the brief? When I make my first 15 second ad, should I upload it right away so I can try to win the community awards, and then upload my other 3+ 15 second ads when I finish each one individually? Or do I make all 4 ads and put it in one like the brief seems to require? Which will obviously take much longer to do. Thanks for any info! Chad |
